Playbook alternative for trainers who want their own app

If you are weighing a Playbook alternative, start with what Playbook does well: no monthly fee, a marketplace app with 56,000+ workouts from 500+ instructors, and subscribers paying $14.99 per month or $99.99 per year. A trainer with an audience can be selling this week.

The search starts when the Playbook app for trainers fees appear in the payout: an 80/20 split on net revenue leaves about $8.39 from a $14.99 in-app subscription, and students live inside the Playbook app next to other trainers. Here is how your own app instead of Playbook looks on FitCoUp.

As of October 2026 Playbook is free to start with no monthly fee. The standard split is 80/20 on net revenue after processing and app store fees: a $14.99 in-app subscription leaves the creator about $8.39 (56%), a sale through the creator's own page with Stripe about $11.39 (76%). Creators must apply.

FitCoUp plans in EUR per month: Basic 99 for 300 students, Pro 499 for 3,000, Enterprise 899 for 15,000, Agency 1,499 for unlimited. Annual billing gives two months free. Selling and retention

Playbook offers a marketplace and a sales page, with no quiz or form builder.

FitCoUp is built around a funnel you own. The quiz maps answers to a program and an offer with branching rules, captures email and shows drop-off per question. One program sells as monthly, 3 month, 6 month, annual, lifetime or one-time; Pro adds coupons, order bumps and upsells. The retention engine runs 16 rules and 64 templates from day one: trial nudges, streak alerts, inactivity flows, dunning, cancel save offers and a win-back after 30 days.

Who should stay on Playbook

Playbook is the better choice when:

  • You want zero fixed cost while you test whether your audience pays.
  • You publish standalone workouts and discovery among 500+ instructors drives growth.
  • Your revenue is small enough that a 20% split costs less than a 99 EUR plan.
  • You do not need a quiz funnel, nutrition products or your own student data.

Moving from Playbook to FitCoUp

Billing does not move between platforms: a Playbook subscriber pays Playbook, so students restart their subscription in your checkout, ideally with a coupon or a free trial. Then import a CSV with email, name, program and end date, upload videos to private storage or link them from YouTube, Vimeo or Bunny, and start from a template such as a 4 week mobility program with 12 sessions, offers and trials in one click. A school can be live the same day; a full catalog takes about a week. The 14 day trial needs no card.

Open your own app in a day

Start a 14 day free trial, import your students and keep your sales after Stripe processing. No card required.
