Guide: existing clients

Sell to existing clients first

In short

Selling to existing clients first means offering your online program to the people who already trained with you or buy from you before any public launch: they trust you, their acquisition cost is zero, they finish sessions, and their feedback and results shape the program and the launch. Afterwards, the upsell funnel keeps selling the next product to the students you already have.

Coaches launch to strangers because strangers feel like growth. Yet the people most likely to buy an online program are the clients who already trained with you in person, bought a previous program or sat in your classes. Their trust is built, their cost is zero and their results become the launch material. This guide shows how to sell to existing clients first, and how to keep selling to existing students afterwards with funnels that run on their own.

The principle comes from client economics: a sale to an existing client has no acquisition cost, so every euro of it is margin.

Zero acquisition cost

An existing client costs nothing to reach. Every euro of the sale is margin.

They finish sessions

People who know you complete the first session, which is where retention starts.

Feedback before the public

The first cohort finds the broken lesson and the missing alternative.

Then the funnel takes over

Upsell funnels sell the next program to existing students automatically.

Why existing clients are the right first students

Three reasons. Acquisition cost: zero, which makes the first revenue pure margin and the first LTV numbers clean. Completion: a client who knows your voice does the first session within 24 hours, and the first session within 24 hours is the strongest predictor of staying. Feedback: a client tells you the alternative that is missing and the lesson that is unclear before a stranger abandons silently. FitCoUp shows LTV per cohort, so the first cohort becomes the baseline for every later one.

Make the list

Write down everyone who paid you in the last two years: in-person clients, class attendees, buyers of a PDF, people who finished a challenge. Import them into FitCoUp as a CSV with email, name, program and end date, so they exist in the CRM before you message them. Add a note on each about what they trained for. This list is the first audience for day 6 of the 7 day launch plan.

How to offer it without awkwardness

Tell the truth: you built the program they asked for between sessions, you are opening it to people you have trained first, and they get a founding price or a bonus for being first. A personal message beats a broadcast. Give them the quiz link anyway, so the recommendation and the consent are recorded, and give manual access with a reason to anyone you want in for free; the audit log records why. Coupons for the founding cohort are part of Pro and above; a one-time price with a deadline works on every plan.

  • One message per person, naming what they trained for with you.
  • A founding price or a bonus session for the first cohort, with a real deadline.
  • The quiz link even for people you know, so the record and the consent exist.
  • Manual access with a reason for anyone you want in for free.

Turn their first month into the public launch

Ask the first cohort for three things: a measurement at the start and at day 30 (stored only with consent), a sentence about the program in their words and permission to quote it. Fix what they report. Then the public launch has a program that works, a result page in the audience's words and a second offer ready. Zubalenok, the first school on FitCoUp, grew from an existing audience before any wider launch.

Keep selling to existing students with funnels

The second sale is easier than the first and most coaches never make it. The FitCoUp upsell funnels do it on a schedule: after three sessions in the first week of a one-time purchase, the membership with the purchase counted toward the first month; after the second paid month, the annual plan; halfway through a program, one free session of the next one; at the finish, the next level with a completion bonus or up to 20% off for 5 days. One active funnel per student, at most two offer emails a week, no offers during a refund or a failed payment. The thank you page carries one one-click offer after every purchase.

Measure it

Two numbers tell you whether this worked: the LTV of the founding cohort at 90 days, and revenue from mechanics, which shows what the upsell funnels and the one-click offers earned. Compare the founding cohort with the first paid traffic cohort; if the paid cohort stays shorter, the fix is onboarding, not more traffic.

Questions

Is it unfair to charge existing clients?

No. You are offering a new product they asked for, at a founding price. Give free access with a recorded reason to anyone you want to thank.

What if I have only ten past clients?

Ten people who finish the first session and give feedback are a better first cohort than a hundred strangers. Their results become the public launch.

How do I import existing clients?

A CSV with email, name, program and end date creates them in the FitCoUp CRM; manual access with a reason opens the program for anyone you choose.

How does FitCoUp sell the next product to existing students?

Upsell funnels offer the membership after three sessions in week one, the annual plan after the second paid month, and the next level halfway and at the finish, with limits on frequency.

Where do I see what the second sales earned?

In the Revenue from mechanics card of the dashboard, next to LTV per product and cohort.
